I was jarred by some day-after-the-day-after the election posts. Now’s the time to support independent publishing more than ever. We will rebuild… full looks by Rick Owens. Etc. This morning I followed a Gazan child making influencer content to raise awareness about the genocide. Here’s how to make fava beans the Gazan way in the middle of a famine. @Renafromgaza is not the only child like this I follow.
I went to press on the new issue of The Whitney Review right after the election. It’s a constant negotiation, what matters and what is the best outlet for your energy given the hatred and denial. I am proud of this issue and this project. The first time Trump was elected I was still a sometimes gumshoe reporter. I wrote for Vice about Antifa counter-demonstrating at pro-Trump rallies. I re-read it this week. I don’t lament moving away from that kind of journalism.
You can pre-order The Whitney Review of New Writing issue 004 here (and U.S. bookstores can now make orders through Asterism).
There will be copies of the issue at Performance Space New York this coming Thursday, November 14 — I’ve curated a performance in the Neilma Sidney theater titled LIBRARY (tickets are only $10).

I’m teaching an Open Movement workshop also at Performance Space New York, the following Sunday, November 17. It’s free and everyone who attends is welcome to a free copy of the new issue of The Whitney Review as well. The title of the workshop is “Body Language.”

Lots of other biannuals’ fall/winter issues are dropping imminently. I wrote about Semiotext(e) for Document Journal issue 25 (you can already read it online). I wrote about perfume for both Viscose Journal 07 and PIN–UP 37 (not to be confused with my story on a smell artist for the issue before, which was just re-released with a collectible smelly sticker cover). I wrote about brutalist architecture for Beyond Noise issue 2. I interviewed Michele Lamy for Lampoon Magazine issue 30. Next week my review of the Devan Díaz-curated OCD show Bad Girls is coming out on this new art criticism vertical that Johanna Fateman and John Vincler are chiefing (it’s part of Cultured, which I feel whatever about, but Johanna has been, for a long time, one of my favorite critics, and what her and John are building seems really needed for the eCoSYteM, so I’m here for it: subscribe). Online things: I interviewed Nate Lippens for Interview and visited Climax Books for Family Style. I also contributed a foreword to Kim Hastreiter’s book STUFF coming out in 2025 (pre-order, and she has newly has a substack).
Thank you to everyone who supports my writing and publishing in myriad ways. I like making opportunities for people to be together and grateful there are a couple coming up this week, courtesy Performance Space.
